SHAPIRO: Living with consequences and 'cancel culture'
This week saw two odd but parallel stories. The first featured a white Minnesota woman, Shiloh Hendrix, who allegedly spotted a Somali child rifling her diaper bag at the park. She reportedly hurled a racial slur at the child. An irate park-goer with a rather questionable background then followed her down the street while filming her and yelling at her. She responded by doubling down. The video went viral. Hendrix claims her address was publicly revealed and that she is under threat, so she took to GiveSendGo to ask for money. She quickly raised over $500,000.

SHAPIRO: Guaranteeing Ukraine's sovereignty may hinge on a force of arms
Russia’s war to conquer Ukraine has been raging since February 2022. At first, the Russian offensive seemed fated for success. Russian troops came within a few kilometres of Kyiv and Western powers offered President Volodymyr Zelenskyy exit from the country. Zelenskyy refused; Ukrainian forces proceeded to hold off and reverse the Russian offensive. Within a few weeks, the battle lines solidified, with Russia continuing to hold much of the territory in the East and Crimea, which they had held since 2014. The only potential solution was an armistice, essentially freezing the lines of conflict and security guarantees to Ukraine sufficient to deter another Russian attack.

SHAPIRO: Humbling lessons on how not to fight a trade war
This week, the stock market yo-yoed wildly, taking investors on a rollercoaster of stunning lows and sudden highs. Rarely has investment been so gut-churning. The reason for the turbulence is obvious — the Trump administration’s continuing mixed signals over its trade war.

SHAPIRO: On security breaches and the infamous Signal chat
This week, all hell broke loose in the media when Jeffrey Goldberg, left-leaning editor of The Atlantic , revealed that he had been accidentally included in a group chat with the top members of President Donald Trump’s national security team. According to a Signal thread revealed by Goldberg, he was invited in by national security adviser Michael Waltz. Other participants included Vice-President JD Vance, Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller and a multitude of other cabinet officials. The thread included an open consideration about whether and how to strike the terrorist Houthis in Yemen. It also culminated in announcements of imminent and then ongoing military action against the Houthis.

SHAPIRO: Does it really matter who shot John F. Kennedy?
This week, the Trump administration released tens of thousands of documents regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Speculation about the “real explanation” for JFK’s assassination has been an enormous cottage industry for decades; as of November 2023, a Gallup poll showed 65% of Americans believe people other than Lee Harvey Oswald were involved in the murder. At no point since the assassination have a majority of Americans believed the truth — that Oswald was a lone gunman.
