Fantasy Fare: Martin Marincin making an unintended early impact
Yahoo! may have found the perfect way to discourage fantasy hockey owners from letting the website do their drafting for them. Martin Marincin. The Maple Leafs minor-leaguer, somehow, was the 27th-ranked defenceman available in Yahoo! online drafts. Despite having played in only two NHL games the past two seasons, and with another year in the press box or on the AHL Marlies awaiting him, Marincin was ranked ahead of the likes of Flyers’ Ivan Provorov, Wild’s Ryan Suter and Rasmus Dahlin, the No. 1 overall draft pick of the Sabres. We can only hope it was an oversight and that no one at the website actually believes the lumbering 26-year-old is that good, even if you factor in hits and blocks. However, as live drafters steered clear of Marincin, eventually his name appeared at the top of the availables list and Yahoo! automatically assigned him to an absentee owner when his/her turn to draft came up. The mere fact that the veteran with 25 career points in five years showed a 58% ownership rate heading into opening night on Wednesday tells you either how many poolies were on autodraft and/or had no idea who Martin Marincin was.

Fantasy Fare: One final look around the ballpark
There are two weeks remaining in the 2018 fantasy baseball season and, unless your lineup is in a tight race for a money spot in the standings, my guess is most of you have already turned your attention to Week 2 of your NFL pools, or are beginning your homework for your NHL drafts and auctions.

Fantasy Fare: Dozier or Schoop, this week's NL-only dilemma
National League-only fantasy owners in need of a second-base or middle-infield upgrade have two prime options to pursue following Tuesday’s trade deadline. Brian Dozier, acquired by the Dodgers from Minnesota, and Jonathan Schoop, sent by the Orioles to Milwaukee, are among the best at the keystone corner, even though both are having under-achieving seasons compared to last year. The question is: Which one do you target first?

Fantasy Fare: How Machado's trade to Dodgers will affect Chris Taylor
Manny Machado is a now Dodger and National League-only fantasy owners can get ready to empty their free-agent acquisition budgets to land this five-category stud. He should be worth every penny, hitting in the heart of a batting order that should provide him with better run and RBI potential than he had on the Orioles.
