Many a Team Canada has carried our flag overseas since the storied Summit Series 50 years ago. “We’ve watched them on YouTube,” says Bhavjeet. “They’re much more elite than us.” Jacob looks up to Bhavjeet, the team’s superstar, and calls him “Gretzky.” The Great One was shadowed his whole career, but never by muscular dystrophy. Bhavjeet needed a 14-hour operation to keep his spine from crushing his heart and lungs, as his muscles wasted away.
