Rafael Hernandez started the celebration with a fist pump as he crossed the wire. Then came the cheers and hugs as Frank DiGiulio and Bob Tiller made their way to the winner’s circle to celebrate the horse that took them on a phenomenal ride the past six years. He started his career six years ago. He won his first three races as a four-year-old, but fell short in a couple of stakes tries. In 2017, his win in the Jacques Cartier Stakes kicked off a year where he would be the only North American horse to win eight times, all in stakes, giving him the title as Canada’s horse of the year.
