In 2017, the New York Times reported that Instagram has unofficially become an online dating app, and well, not much has changed. In fact, with more than 375 million people using Instagram’s direct message feature on a monthly basis, the lines between dating apps and social media have become increasingly blurry. Liking someone’s photo or “sliding into their DMs” continues to be a convenient and low stakes way to show romantic interest.
