FATAH: Climate change is real -- wake up

News that the mercury had hit almost 50 degrees Celsius in British Columbia reminded me of once reporting from Sibi in Balochistan in 1977 where it felt as if I was being ironed by a hot press. The skin sizzled under the unrelenting heat of the desert sun that blinded one despite the dark sunglasses and a make-shift hat for shade.

We had barely absorbed news of 215 dead aboriginal children at a residential school in Kamloops, when we were jolted from our collective slumber by the reality of hatred and racism that simmers just below the surface of our contrived calm exterior.
