It’s Cyber Week around the internet and sales are live and ready for snatching. But Toronto-based brand, Kotn, isn’t slashing prices, instead, it’s building three schools.
Kotn was founded in 2015 by Rami Helali, Mackenzie Yeates and Benjamin Sehl. The brand is known for its high-quality and fairly-priced clothes made from Egyptian cotton. The company has since expanded beyond just cotton and into homeware.
Aside from simple, seemingly timeless, wardrobe and home staples, the brand also offers transparent manufacturing. Kotn is not only B Corp certified (which is a third-party nonprofit that is committed to ethical manufacturing), it’s top of class. The brand was voted “B Corporation’s Best for the World,” a distinction given to the top 5 per cent of certified businesses. You can learn more about Kotn’s manufacturing from the farms to the makers.

Kotn works with a local Egyptian NGO Misr El Kheir Foundation to build and fund schools. According to Kotn’s website, “our goal is to provide every child in our farming communities with safe, convenient, and quality education, building 50 schools by 2025.” So far the brand has funded 15 schools and built 10.
This Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend, from Nov. 25 to 29, Kotn is donating 100 per cent of the proceeds from every order (up to $150,000) to build three new schools in the rural Egyptian communities where the brand sources its cotton. Learn more about this annual initiative, currently in its sixth year.
