Tom Cruise isn’t backing down after he unleashed an expletive-laden tirade on some crew members on the set of Mission: Impossible 7 last year.
During a break in shooting on the Christopher McQuarrie-directed film last December, the U.K. Sun reported that Cruise caught two crew members standing too close to one another and his fiery reaction was caught on tape.

“We are the gold standard. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us,” Cruise was heard yelling in the leaked audio. “Because they believe in us and what we’re doing. I’m on the phone with every f—ing studio at night, insurance companies, producers and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf—ers. I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever!”
The audio continued, with Cruise fuming, “I am beyond your apologies … You can tell it to the people who are losing their f—ing homes because our industry is shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education. That’s what I sleep with every night — the future of this f—ing industry!”
This week, though, Cruise addressed the viral moment, telling Empire magazine, in an excerpt published by the Los Angeles Times, “I said what I said … There was a lot at stake at that point.”
Cruise, who recently handed back his three Golden Globe awards, went on to add that he didn’t yell at the offending crew members in front of the whole cast.

The film, already beset by delays in February 2020, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, was shut down again earlier this year after more crew members tested positive. Cruise, who plays superspy Ethan Hunt in the Mission series, said when they were finally able to resume shooting it was “just a huge relief.”
“I was thinking about the people I work with, and my industry. And for the whole crew to know that we’d started rolling on a movie … It was very emotional, I gotta tell you.”
Mission: Impossible 7 will be released in May 2022.
