If the Wu-Tang Clan is looking to add an additional member, they might want to give a listen to Jennifer Lawrence.
The Oscar winner raps along with group’s Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit in a scene from her upcoming climate change-inspired comedy Don’t Look Up. But the experience she says, seated alongside the film’s co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and writer-director Adam McKay at a recent virtual press conference, was one that left her slightly red-faced.

“It took a while (to learn it), it took a couple of weeks,” Lawrence, 31, says. “And then, because something happened with COVID, that ended up being my very first scene working on the movie.”
In the new Netflix feature, DiCaprio and Lawrence play two astronomers who discover a planet-destroying comet is headed to Earth. As humanity faces imminent doom, the pair deal with political opportunists (led by Meryl Streep’s Trump-inspired President Janie Orlean), greedy tech moguls (Mark Rylance) and societal indifference epitomized by two daytime talking heads (Cate Blanchett and Tyler Perry).
The rap scene is only onscreen for a brief moment, and the actress jokes that she wished she knew how fleeting it would be before she agreed to learn all the lyrics.
“It was horrifying because I was in this huge hangar and it was so quiet. I didn’t know anybody. And I had to rap Wu-Tang Clan. It was just horrendous, and then what’s in the movie is, like, five seconds.
“I really wish I had known that. If I could have foreseen what you would have used … It was the worst day of my life. It was very embarrassing. (But) hey, I knew my assignment. I did know every word, I still do.”
The actress, who is currently expecting her first child, proved her quick-witted lyrical prowess. “There’s no place to hide,” she starts. “Dr. Doom, prepare for the boom.”
Lawrence breaks into a grin. “Just recently, the song came back on my phone and I was like, ‘Alright, it’s been enough time. I’ll listen to it.'”
