While promoting his upcoming drama The Tender Bar, Affleck, 49, told Stern that feelings of being “trapped” in his marriage to his ex-wife Jennifer Garner led to his alcohol abuse.
“I’d probably still be drinking. It’s part of why I started drinking … because I was trapped,” the Argo director told Stern this week. “I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”
“[Lopez] is pissed,” one source tells Page Six. “She is getting pulled into this because she is dating him. She doesn’t want to be dragged into this.”
The insider added, “She has met Jennifer Garner. She is trying to get to know her and Ben’s kids … It’s reckless and cavalier of him.”

Affleck was married to Garner, 49, from 2005 to 2018, and said in his interview with Stern that he tried to work on their marriage for the sake of their three children: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and 9-year-old Samuel.
“Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids,” Affleck said. “The truth was, we took our time, we made the decision … We grew apart,” he explained.
“We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer,” he said. “Both of us felt like we don’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”

Affleck, who has been in rehab multiple times over the years, was roundly criticized online for his comments.
“You blame your ex wife for drinking? You were a drunk before you married her!” one person wrote on Twitter.
Another shared an infamous paparazzi photo of Garner driving Affleck to rehab in 2018 — three years after they announced plans to divorce.

“So casually cruel in the name of being honest! Pretty s—–,” a third remarked. “He was drinking long before her. She stood by him after he cheated. She takes care of the kids while he’s off living the JLo lifestyle. Jennifer Garner saved Ben Affleck’s life and career. He should show more grace.”
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday night, Affleck tried to clarify the statement he made on Stern’s show.
“I would never want my kids to think I would ever say a bad word about their mom,” he said.
