Brandon Blackstock, the talent manager and Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, has died after being diagnosed with cancer three years ago.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” a family rep said in a statement to People.

“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

On Wednesday, Clarkson announced she was postponing her Las Vegas residency for the rest of August to spend time with their children, River, 11, and Remington, 9.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote in a statement shared to social media.

“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”

In addition to his children with Clarkson, Blackstock had Savannah and Seth with his ex-wife Melissa Ashworth.

Clarkson and Blackstock met for the first time at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May 2006 but didn’t start dating until years later.

“This guy walks by, making everybody laugh,” she told People in 2013. “I said, ‘I’m gonna end up with him. I know it.'”

They began dating in February 2012 and were married in October 2013. While together, he served as Clarkson’s manager.

But in June 2020, Clarkson filed for divorce after nearly seven years of marriage.

Less than two years later, Clarkson was granted primary custody of their two children during a messy divorce.

In January 2024, Clarkson revealed that their marriage was not her idea.

“I never wanted to get married the first time,” she told People las year. “[Brandon] had children, a religious background, and it was important, I think, for him. But I’ve never been that person.

“Because I’ve been through a couple divorces in my family, I just don’t like to put any weight on it. It can happen; it doesn’t have to happen. For my kids, I definitely would never even think about it until they’re out of my house.”

Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, also served as Clarkson’s manager. He is the ex-husband of country star Reba McIntire, who Clarkson considers a close friend.
