Suzanne Somers' widower in relationship with her former co-star

The widower of the late Suzanne Somers has found new love more than a year after her death.

Canadian film producer and ex-television host Alan Hamel confirmed to New York Post’s Page Six he’s dating actress Joanna Cassidy, who once co-starred with Somers in the 1985 television miniseries “Hollywood Wives.”

The 88-year-old Hamel was photographed with the 79-year-old Cassidy in Malibu, Calif., this past Monday heading to lunch at Broad Street Oyster Company.

Hamel told Page Six he doesn’t know where the new relationship is headed, noting he’s known the Blade Runner and Six Feet Under actress for “over 45 years.”

“Joanna was a guest star on (daytime talk show) ‘The Alan Hamel Show’ in Canada in the ’70s. She was a great guest and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time,” said Hamel.

Hamel said he ran into Cassidy “many times” again in the mid-1980s when she and Somers were filming “Hollywood Wives,” noting “it was very cordial.”

Somers died of cancer in October 2023, a day before her 77th birthday. Hamel told Page Six he had the blessing of his wife to move on from her after her death.

“Don’t mope around,” Somers had told Hamel. “Live your life. We will see one another after you cross over.”

After Somer’s death, it was Hamel’s son, Stephen, who paired him and Cassidy together. Hamel said his son didn’t know the two already knew each other.

Hamel said he’s very fortunate to have Cassidy in his life, noting she’s “easily the hardest-working and most active actress in Hollywood for well over 50 years” and is a “great mother to her adult children.”
