Traffic in Toronto is so bad that even action hero Tom Cruise is wondering what’s going on.
The actor is in the midst of a worldwide tour in support of his latest outing as world-saving IMF agent Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One and during an interview with eTalk at the film’s premiere in Rome, Cruise was wondering why the city has been unable to solve its decades-long gridlock problems.

“I say, you sneak in a stunt in Part Two and you come to Toronto. And you take on the traffic in Toronto for two hours. Without road rage,” Sonia Mangat challenged Cruise in an exclusive interview.
“You know what, I have done that challenge, and I have been in that traffic. I’ve made movies in Toronto, I’ve visited Toronto, I have friends in Toronto,” Cruise replied laughing.
“What’s up with the traffic in Toronto? Have they figured this out?” Cruise added.
“No,” Mangat said. “It gets even worse.”
“Wow,” Cruise responded. He then said he’d consider riding a motorbike to beat the bumper-to-bumper chaos.

The city’s mayor-elect, Olivia Chow, heard about Cruise’s comments and responded at a press briefing on Thursday.
“Well, you know what Tom Cruise says is always right, right?” she said, according to CTV.
“Traffic is a problem. [Cruise’s comment] echoes the report we saw from the Board of Trade yesterday to say that our public transit system could be so much better if it was more reliable,” Chow said.
Earlier this year, Toronto was ranked one of the worst cities on the planet when it comes to traffic with with delay times of 118 hours for commuters.
Toronto’s delays have increased 59% since 2021.
According to a study released in April, a journey across T.O. took 44.92 minutes in 2022, which was blamed on the fact “the city’s road system was built for the 1960s.”
The city also has one of the least reliable transit systems compared to others in the GTA, according to newly released transit report cards from the Toronto Region Board of Trade.
In May, a well-travelled stretch of Queen Street was closed from Bay Street to Yonge Street as construction began on the Ontario Line transit addition, making it even harder to get across the city.
Cruise filmed 1988’s Cocktail in Hogtown and has attended the Toronto International Film Festival. He has also touched down in T.O. to promote various films, including Edge of Tomorrow and Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation.
Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One opens in theatres July 12.
