Let’s backtrack, though.

While a sequel to the 1989 hit wasn’t mentioned exactly, the stars of the movie, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, shared a photo of their reunion with a promise of more to come.

“It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic. Can’t wait to show you all soon,” Ryan, 63, wrote in the caption.

In the social media post, Crystal and Ryan are sitting next to one another on a sofa in a room featuring ornate patterned wallpaper.

For those who have seen the romantic comedy more than once, the setting is a detailed recreation of the documentary-style couples confessionals that were shown between scenes.

Crystal, 76, also appears to be wearing his character Harry Burns’ famous fisherman’s sweater.

Directed by Reiner and written by the late Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally… follows Harry Burns (Crystal) and Sally Albright (Ryan) as they encounter each other in a series of chance meetings over the course of 12 years, testing the question, “Can men and women ever just be friends?”

In the end, they get together (spoiler alert?), but whether it was for happily ever after remains to be seen.

While it is unknown what exactly the pair are teasing, be it a sequel, reboot, series adaptation or a mere Super Bowl commercial, the Sun’s Mark Daniell previously spoke with the film’s director Rob Reiner, who suggested the pair “got married” and had children — but it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

“I think they had big problems and they split apart and then they eventually got back together,” Reiner predicted.

At the time, Reiner surmised that no grandkids were in the picture “yet” — but a series or movie, perhaps titled After Harry Met Sally… wouldn’t be a bad idea.

That said, fans are clamouring for this dream project to actually be in the works.

“Best romantic comedy of all time. Hands down. Brilliant,” one person wrote.

Another added: “It only took six months. Thirty five years and six months.”
