'IDIOT FOR MONEY': Harrison Ford required ‘not caring’ to act in Marvel’s 'Captain America' sequel

Leave it to Harrison Ford to say, well, whatever he wants to say.

The man who made Indiana Jones and Han Solo iconic was asked about his decision to appear in the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World and what it took to portray Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross/Red Hulk.

“What did it take? It took not caring,” he said in an interview with Variety. “It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before.”

While that may sound like Ford is trashing the MCU, it’s really just Ford being Ford, who acknowledged that taking a job for a hefty paycheque isn’t beneath him.

“I don’t mean to disparage it,” Ford continued. “I’m just saying you have to do certain things that normally your mother would not want you to do — or your acting coach, if you had one.”

He added: “But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time, and I’m delighted at the response that we got with the trailer.”

The 82-year-old is taking over the role originated by the late William Hurt, who originated the character of Ross in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and appeared in Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The fact that Ross’ anti-hero alias may have seemed like a surprise to Ford, who initially claimed to not know anything about Red Hulk, he revealed at Comic-Con this year that he was in on it the whole time.

“I did know, and I thought it was a spectacular secret to keep,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Unfortunately, the secret’s out of the bag.”

Captain America: Brave New World, which hits theatres on Feb. 12, stars Anthony Mackie, who is headlining in the title role, following Chris Evans’ departure.

Ford previously spoke highly of Marvel when asked how the MCU compares to his other famous franchises, Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

“It’s a whole different cut of cloth, isn’t it?” he told ScreenRant. “Free of some normal constraints to the imagination. It’s delightful to deal with and it’s fun.”

He also described the people on the project as “fantastic.”

“The director, Julius Onah, did a terrific job. Mr. Mackie is great fun to work with. We had a good time. I enjoyed it.”

What he did not find fantastic was when EW asked him who deals better with snakes — Indy or Thaddeus?

“I’ve always treated these questions with the utmost respect and somehow, at the same time, complete disdain,” he joked. “I will not answer that stupid question. But thank you for the opportunity.”
