Fans of The Sopranos have been treated to a first look at the cult series prequel movie after the trailer for The Many Saints Of Newark dropped on Tuesday.
The film, set in Newark, New Jersey in the 1960s, focuses on a young Tony Soprano, played by the late James Gandolfini’s son, Michael, and the influence of his mobbed-up uncle Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola) has on him.
Alan Taylor’s film, produced and co-written by The Sopranos creator David Chase, is set to be released on Oct. 1.
The trailer begins with a voiceover from the late Gandolfini, who says, “When I was a kid, guys like me were brought up to follow certain codes.”
The trailer also features Vera Farmiga, Billy Magnussen, Corey Stoll, and John Magro, playing younger versions of characters who featured in The Sopranos, Ray Liotta, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Jon Bernthal.
James Gandolfini, who won three Emmys for his portrayal of the anxiety-ridden mob boss, passed away in 2013.
