'We might be too old': Simon Pegg says current cast may not appear in Quentin Tarantino's 'Star Trek'

Simon Pegg is getting ready to beam himself back up for more Star Trek movies.

After a series of delays, the fourth film in the rebooted series that features new actors playing the classic characters of Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Scotty (Pegg), Sulu (John Cho), Chekov (the late Anton Yelchin) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana) is set to go before cameras early next year.

Pegg, who co-wrote the third film, will be back as chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Montgomery “Scotty” Scott.

While the plot is under wraps, the new film is said to be focusing on Kirk running into his father (Chris Hemsworth) in a time travel storyline.

S.J. Clarkson will direct, making her the first female to helm a film in the Star Trek franchise.

“I’ve met with S.J. and she’s fizzing with ideas and she has the right attitude,” Pegg says during an interview to promote Mission: Impossible — Fallout. “She’s reverent, but she’s not slavish. In terms of the story, I have a vague knowledge, but it’s nothing I can talk about. I’m also doing something that is separate to that.”

And if that’s not enough Star Trek for you, yet another (R-rated) film is in the works from J.J. Abrams and Quentin Tarantino. But Pegg hints that won’t come until after the fourth movie hits theatres.

“Quentin’s idea is another thing,” he says. “He came in to (Abrams’ production company) Bad Robot and pitched it and it’s been put in the bank. I think he had us in mind when he came up with the idea; he likes the new cast. But he’s going to be so busy with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that I can’t see him doing it for five or six years, by which time we might be too old anyway.”

Mission: Impossible — Fallout hits theatres this Friday.
