The blond star had been teasing snippets of the video all week, but finally treated fans to the full video on Friday, leading to both Taylor and the video trending on social media.

Taylor appears to have taken inspiration from sci-fi movies such as Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell and Tron: Legacy for the video, directed by Joseph Khan.
It begins with a hooded Taylor walking down an alley, passing helmeted robots, before entering an abandoned warehouse in which she finds a cyborg version of herself, trapped inside a cube structure.
The trapped Taylor then does her utmost to break out of the cube, manifesting a cyborg horse to ride on after shape shifting, and after causing an electrical storm inside the box, the robot then smashes out of her confines. The power of the explosion also leads to the hooded Taylor’s face being ripped off – revealing her robotic framework beneath.

The video is also full of hints and references to important things in Taylor’s life, known as Easter eggs. At the beginning, there’s a reference to 89 in the opening scenes – Taylor’s birth year and earlier album title. Fans also spotted the number 91 in yellow, which some took to be a reference to her boyfriend Joe Alwyn’s birth year, 1991.
That’s not the only apparent nod to Taylor’s actor beau. She also sings “Knew he was a killer/ First time that I saw him”, which could be referencing Joe’s first-ever movie Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, in which he starred as a U.S. soldier. A later line sees Taylor croon: “Younger than my exes but he act like such a man, so I see nothing better, I keep him forever.”
The last reference is the name “Joseph” written in Chinese calligraphy on one of the alley walls, although that could be a reference to the video director rather than Joe.
