Maher acknowledged that Democrats took a step “back to sanity” after the New York Times took a more “sensible liberal, not crazy woke” position on transgender issues.

But then the comedian took aim at The View, suggesting the Dems “do something” about the daytime talk show.

On the June 18 show, Goldberg and co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin got into a heated debate over human rights violations in Iran.

Griffin noted how under Ayatollah’s oppressive regime, “Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings” and women face imprisonment if their skin or hair is showing.

Goldberg then brought up how in America, people have tied “gay folks” to cars and “they used to just keep hanging Black people,” but the former Trump staffer argued that “the Iranian regime today, in 2025, is nothing compared to the United States.”

Griffin added: “I think it’s very different to live in the United States in 2025 than it is to live in Iran in 2025,” prompting Goldberg to reply, “Not if you’re Black.”

Hunt shot down Goldberg’s comparison, pointing out the success he has found in America as a Black man.

“As I said, I’m a direct descendant of a slave, my great-great-grandfather, who was born on Rosedown Plantation. I am literally being judged not by the colour of my skin but by the content of my character,” he explained.

“That’s the progress because — like a lot of white people had to vote for me — a lot,” he continued. “So I don’t ever want to hear Whoopi Goldberg’s conversation about how it’s worse to be black in America right now.”

Fellow panelist CNN contributor Paul Begala mentioned brought up Juneteenth, which celebrates the freedom of Black Americans from slavery, and questioned why President Donald Trump “doesn’t want to honour” the holiday.

“I don’t want it. I don’t want Black History Month. I don’t want all these days to make everybody feel special,” Hunt replied.

“I’m an ‘80s baby,” he said. “Everybody’s too sensitive anyway. We’re all Americans anyway.”
