Season 4 will pick up six months after the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins, Ind. The latest chapter finds the group of friends separated for the first time with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) moving to California with Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and his family, while Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink) enter high school back in Indiana.
Hopper (David Harbour), who was presumed dead, is looking worse for wear, but alive in Russia.

But a new and horrifying supernatural threat has surfaced, unveiling a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.
“A war is coming. Your friends in Hawkins are very much in the eye of a storm,” a powerless Eleven is ominously warned in the new trailer. “I don’t know how to say this other than just to say it — without you, we can’t win this war.”
The clip ends with the tagline: “Every ending has a beginning.”

Earlier this year, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer announced that the fifth season will be its last.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” the Duffer brothers wrote in an open letter to fans. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four but — as you’ll see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale.”
Last month, co-creator Ross told Netflix’s Tudum publication that the new episodes will embrace horror elements.
“When we pitched it to Netflix all those years ago, we pitched it as the kids are … The Goonies in E.T.,” he said. “That’s their storyline. And the adults are in ‘Jaws’ and ‘Close Encounters’ and then the teens are in Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween. But, this year, we don’t have the kids. We can’t do The Goonies anymore. And so, suddenly, we’re leaning much harder into that horror movie territory that we love. It was fun to make that change.”
The first volume of Stranger Things Season 4 hits Netflix on May 27. The second part is set to follow on July 1.
