“Thank you for waking up with BT,” Brown said (per BlogTO). “Wanted to share some news with all of you at home. Our colleagues Sid and Meredith are no longer with BT. They brought us plenty of great conversations, laughs, and unforgettable moments. We’re grateful for everything they shared with all of us.”

Brown said the rest of the BT team wished them “the very best in what comes next.”

“We know change is never easy, but for over 35 years Breakfast Television has grown and evolved to bring you the best to start your day. So stay tuned, we have some exciting plans in the works that we’ll share with you very, very soon,” he said.

Viewers at home reacted to the surprising news with anger.

“So disappointed with BT for getting rid of Sid and Meredith Shaw,” one viewer wrote on X. “I loved them they were funny an always put a smile on my face in the mornings. Love Devo an Frank .. But you lost a lot of viewers. I’m so hurt to see them go ! What comes around goes around all I can say!”

“I’m so sad that @Sid_Seixeiro and @meredithshaw were let go by @breakfasttv … and @devobrown having to deliver the news …such a crappy move by the network,” a second person tweeted.

In a statement shared with Postmedia from Rogers Sports & Media, the network thanked Seixeiro and Shaw for their work.

“We’re invested in Breakfast Television’s success and leadership in Canadian morning television, and we’ll announce exciting new plans in the coming weeks,” a spokesperson wrote in an email. “As part of this evolution, we have parted ways with Sid Seixeiro and Meredith Shaw. We thank them for sharing their passion and energy with audiences every morning and wish them both the very best.”

After she joined BT in 2023, Shaw called the job “an absolute dream come true.”

“With eyes full of happy tears as I type, I am beyond thrilled to be making @breakfasttelevision my new home,” Shaw wrote in an Instagram post. “To everyone who loves this show, please know that I do too, we will steer it together with heart, hope and a helluva good time.”

Shaw, who replaced Dina Pugliese, who left BT in early 2023 to spend more time with her family, came to BT after having appeared on The Marilyn Denis Show, The Social, CTV’s Your Morning, and etalk. She also hosted CHUM 104.5 and iHeartRadio’s syndicated national show, The Back in the Day Brunch.

“It is my pleasure to step into this new role, a real dream come true,” Shaw said at the time. “From the moment I met Sid, I knew we could talk about anything, laugh about anything, and, most of all, be honest with each other and the audience. I’m so thankful for his support throughout this process and can’t wait to see those iconic Seixeiro dance moves in person. Cheers to a big new adventure. I’m so grateful and so ready.”

Seixeiro joined BT in 2021, taking over from Roger Petersen, who left the program in 2020.

“I’ve always been curious to explore other areas of the business and this was a unique opportunity that I couldn’t pass up,” he said announcing his new role during a segment of Tim & Sid.

Following Monday’s announcement, Shaw took to social media to address the news.

“Not gonna lie, this is hard,” she began a post that was shared to X and Instagram. “Deep breath. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes & hearts. Thank you Sid, for being a tremendous teammate and friend. You’re the best of the best and I love you.”

Shaw went on to thank BT viewers, adding “my gratitude for you has never been deeper as a new chapter begins for your favourite show.”

“I hope I did you proud, I hope you saw me up there on your television and felt seen, I hope you know how much I cherish every conversation I have with you out & about or in the DMs and I hope every time you see a duck you’ll think of me cheering you on, telling you to go for it, to show up, to have a good time, because I sure did,” she concluded.

Seixeiro also addressed his departure in a message shared with his 189,000 followers on X.

“Hey guys. Confirming my last day at @breakfasttv was this past Friday. Thanks for letting me into your homes and for being so kind. Also, thank you to @Rogers for over 13 years of support. They allowed me incredible freedom on-air and I’m grateful,” he wrote.

He also paid tribute to Shaw, saying it was “an absolute honour” to work alongside her. She’s driven, she challenged me every day and made me a better broadcaster. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her. She’s just getting started,” he said.
