‘Yellowstone’ sets spinoff with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser's Beth and Rip

Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are set to reprise their Yellowstone characters Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in a new spinoff.
The news, which was reported by Variety and Deadline, comes days before the series finale of the fifth season airs on Sunday, Dec. 15.

According to Deadline, the new series will be spearheaded by Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan and “will likely feature other cast members from the mothership series alongside Reilly and Hauser.”
Although the new show will be a continuation of the Yellowstone storyline, sources tell Variety that it will be categorized as a spinoff so that Paramount can keep the title in its own “streaming ecosystem.”
One of the most popular shows on television since its 2018 debut, Yellowstone tells the story of a longtime ranching family in Montana that is forced to square off against others encroaching on their land. Earlier this year, series star Kevin Costner, who played the family patriarch John Dutton, departed the drama to focus on his four-part Horizon film saga.
Costner’s character was killed off in the season premiere of Season 5B in November.
In addition to the Beth and Rip spinoff, Sheridan will continue telling stories set inside the Dutton universe with new seasons of his prequels 1923 (starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren) and 1883 (with Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill) on the way, as well as The Madison, a new spinoff that will be led by Michelle Pfeiffer.
In an interview with Postmedia last month in New York, Reilly and Hauser promised that Costner’s John Dutton would be “so central to this season.”
“Yes, there was a pivot and things had to happen sooner to end the show the way Taylor envisioned many years ago … But John Dutton is our central character,” Reilly said. “There is going to be a loss, but then you get to (see) what that loss is going to mean for all of us. That’s part of what the story is now and was always going to be.”
The two also reflected on the enduring popularity of Sheridan’s storytelling empire and what they hoped the legacy of Beth and Rip would be with television audiences.
“Loyalty for sure. I think they have each other’s back so much. They protect each other with their lives. Rip saves Beth on a few occasions and I think she would die for him. There’s something intense and larger than life about their love story, which I think is intoxicating,” Reilly said.
