What to know: Vancouver-headquartered apparel brand Duer has opened a new store in Victoria.
Located at 84 Johnson St. in a space that was previously home to another Vancouver favourite, Lululemon, the new 2,500-square-foot store offers a full selection of men’s and women’s designs from the brand.
According to Gary Lenett, the founder of Duer, the store has been a longtime coming.
“Until now, we had not found a lease that aligned with our vision for a street-level location in the heart of downtown, with high visibility, strong foot traffic and proximity to the harbour,” Lenett explains.
Finding a fit in the heritage building it now calls home, the founder says the decor and offering of the new location are meant to inspire “movement, exploration and possibility.”

“Our brand promise is that our apparel will facilitate experiences and adventures, and we design our stores with that same mindset,” Lenett adds.
The new Victoria retail outpost is part of a larger expansion plan for the local brand, which now operates nine stores across North America including locations in Los Angeles, Toronto and Calgary.
Its flagship store is situated in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood at 1757 West 4th Ave.
“We have a few more on the horizon,” Lenett says. “San Francisco and Portland will be opening this fall in Hayes Valley and Nob Hill. Right now, we’re focused on the Pacific Northwest and the West Coast more broadly.”
A third possible new U.S. store location is also being considered, according to Lenett.
“Seattle is definitely on our radar, so we’re keeping an eye out for the right space there too,” he says.
