In 2025, hospitality takes centre stage at IDS with its feature, Night & Day: The Evolution of Hotel Design. Hotels have transformed from simple accommodations into multifunctional spaces for meeting, dining, working, and socializing — balancing security, hygiene, comfort, and style. Night & Day is set to showcase four spaces designed by top interior designers and architects.
Designers include founder of globally renowned Paolo Ferrari of Studio – Paolo Ferrari, who is known for his design of a number of award-winning nightclub, hotel and restaurant projects throughout the world.
Ferrari is set to deliver the keynote opening morning at the show, and will be providing an overview of where he sees the future of luxury hospitality heading into the next decade and beyond.
“Through my extensive travel for work and collaborations with visionary leaders in the hospitality sector, I’ve gained valuable insights into the evolving landscape. While attending industry conferences, I often heard predictions but rarely offered actionable intelligence,” he said in an interview.
“That’s why I decided it was time to share my perspective — backed by real-world projects I’m currently involved in — rather than just theoretical ideas.”
Ferrari maintains that design lessons learned in the hospitality, hotel, and restaurant industries do spill over into the home decor market.
“Absolutely, I also have private residential projects in progress, and all our projects share a deep correlation. We look for our interiors to have the feel of a journey, evoking the essence of materials and embracing unexpected forms and details to create a balanced, human-centric world.”
For example, Ferrari says the materials he selects are presented with subtlety to preserve their natural resonance and potency — their inherent human and emotional qualities.
“Interior design is about finding ways to celebrate human existence and rituals, regardless of the typology. Each project is approached as a unique entity, allowing us to re-explore and reinvent design concepts without anchoring to fleeting trends,” he adds.
“Our commercial and hospitality projects offer the ideal complexity and demand to actualize these concepts, naturally leading to the avant-garde in everything we do.”
Also at the show, and sponsored by Yorkville University, the popular Studio North and Prototype features emerging Canadian designers showcasing their innovative work on this year’s show floor.
The District — a marketplace where designers connect with consumers and industry professionals — also makes its return to IDS25, offering attendees a carefully curated selection of the latest home design products.
And LIV Design Studio continues to support and celebrate the work of Canadian students with their 2025 Student Challenge, ‘The Third Space: Designing a Lobby for Connection.’
