“As fall approaches, people are getting ready for the seasonal change by turning their homes into cozy retreats, using Pinterest as a key source for inspiration,” says Sydney Stanback, Pinterest’s global trends and insights lead.
“With the busyness of summer winding down, it’s no surprise the idea of a ‘tranquil retreat’ is taking off, with searches for things like ‘Zen house’ up by 405 per cent.
It shows Pinners are prioritizing creating spaces that feel peaceful and help us unwind from our day-to-day lives, especially heading into the cooler months.”
The creative planning platform compared search terms from June 2023 to June 2024 as Pinners prepared for fall. Let’s dive into the Pinterest Fall 2024 Trend Report to learn more about Pinterest’s latest predictions:
COZY CORNERS. “Cozy corners are also trending, as everyone is getting ready to curl up in warm, inviting spaces this fall,” says Stanbeck. “Trends like ‘floral room aesthetics’ (+370 per cent) and ‘cozy sunrooms’ (+930 per cent) are also taking off, with many people incorporating nature into their homes, with searches like ‘air-purifying plants’ up by +850 per cent.”
Meanwhile, searches for ‘candle bouquets’ are up 720 per cent, while searches for ‘dreamy room’ are up 255 per cent, ‘dreamy artwork’ up 680 per cent, ‘cozy lighting’ up 200 per cent and ‘cozy reading room’ up 140 per cent.
SERENE COLOURS. “Looking to set the mood? Colour is key and can help evoke a sense of calm using serene hues like sage, seafoam and dusty blues. Searches for these colours are skyrocketing as more people aim to create soothing environments that feel like a breath of fresh air,” Stanbeck says.
Searches for ‘serene colour palette’ are up 110 per cent. Here’s a look at other searches: ‘seafoam’ (+200 per cent), ‘sage and blue colour palette’ (+570 per cent), ‘blue and cream bedroom’ (+200 per cent), ‘dusty blue bathroom’ (+120 per cent), ‘moody purple bedroom’ (+350 per cent) and ‘lavender room aesthetic’ (+110 per cent).
But green is having its moment in the spotlight: searches for ‘green home décor’ are up a whopping 2,670 per cent, while searches for ‘dark green bathroom’ are up 350 per cent, ‘green home offices’ are up 260 per cent and ‘forest green house’ are up 220 per cent
JAPANESE, ZEN STYLE. Japanese design is also making waves, blending minimalism and nature to create balanced, harmonious spaces, Stanback reports. “From ‘Japanese vintage art’ (+270 per cent) to ‘Zen bathroom,’ (+200 per cent), Pinterest users are increasingly drawn to Japandi and Zen-inspired décor, bringing a touch of calm to modern homes.”
