Retired exotic dancer reveals how she stripped away her Amish traditions

From God-fearing Amish to crowd-pleasing stripper, Naomi Swartzentruber is baring all about her rebellious ways.

The Michigan native recently ended her 20-year dancing career after becoming a mom. She published a memoir about her escape from her upbringing and she shared her story exclusively with People.

According to the publication, Swartzentruber was 19 and on her own in Minnesota, worried about how she’d pay her bills working a factory job. That November, she found herself in a strip club. A friend had taken her there.

“She didn’t tell me where we were going and before I knew it, I was on stage,” Swartzentruber said.

Some of the women working at the club took her backstage, stripped off her clothes and picked out revealing attire for her debut.

“They all agreed on this hot pink bikini. They wrestled it on me and then they pushed me through the door off the stage,” she said. “And I don’t know, it was like no looking back after that.”

She made $55 in tips for a single amateur dance.
