2 charged after stabbing on streetcar, earlier east-end incidents

A 27-year-old Toronto man has been charged following a stabbing on a TTC streetcar in the east end on Monday that also led to the victim being charged for separate incidents.

Toronto Police said officers responded at 1:29 p.m. for a stabbing in the Broadview Ave.-Gerrard St. E. area.

Cops alleged that a female victim and male suspect were on a streetcar travelling southbound on Broadview from Broadview Station when they become engaged in a physical altercation.

Police said the suspect allegedly assaulted and stabbed the victim, who exited the streetcar after asking for assistance.

The victim, a 31-year-old female, was found nearby and transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Cops said the suspect fled the area prior to police arrival and was last seen walking northbound on Broadview from Gerrard St. E.

Police said the victim and suspect are not known to each other.

Gullu Jiwani, 72, of Toronto, was charged with assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

Police said that during the investigation, the female victim was identified as being wanted for two previous reports of assault on two victims in Broadview Station that same day.

Cops said both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries in those incidents.

Sabrina Young, 31, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, disobey lawful order of court, and assault with weapon or imitation weapon.
