A man and a woman were charged after what cops described as an “unintentional” shooting of a female in a neighbouring apartment in St. Catharines.
Niagara Regional Police said they responded last Friday at about 12:20 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the Ontario-St. Paul Sts. area.
Cops said a female was found with a gunshot wound and transported to a hospital by emergency crews.
Officers determined that she had been unintentionally shot by individuals in a neighbouring apartment, which police said was then contained for an investigation.
Andre Smith, 38, and Anikkita Beckford-Stone, 20, both of St. Catharines, were arrested and charged shortly afterward.
Smith was charged with six firearm-related offences and one count of aggravated assault. Beckford-Stone was charged with five firearm-related offences and one count of aggravated assault.
Police said a firearm was allegedly recovered when officers executed a search warrant on the accused’s apartment the next day.
Police continue to investigate.
