Two men and two male youths who were out on nearly a dozen release orders combined were quickly swept up by cops after a jewelry store robbery in Richmond Hill.
York Regional Police said they responded to a robbery Tuesday at about 3:30 p.m. in the Yonge St.-Levendale Rd. area after receiving reports that three male suspects were allegedly using hammers to smash glass cases.
Police said the suspects allegedly stole a “quantity of jewelry” with an employee receiving minor injuries after being assaulted. The suspects fled in a silver SUV that was being driven by a fourth suspect.
The chase was caught on video as the York police air support unit, Air2, assisted in the chase into Toronto along with the canine unit. Police said the suspect vehicle was spotted at an apartment complex in the Hwy. 27-Finch Ave. Police said suspects were rounded up after they allegedly fled into a wooded area.
Police said the vehicle was also confirmed to be stolen.
“The teamwork demonstrated by York Regional Police is a testament to the professionalism and commitment our officers have in pursuing individuals who commit violent acts in our communities,” York police Chief Jim MacSween said in a news release.
“Of the four suspects arrested, one adult and two youths were out on release orders. Our bail system needs to address such offenders, as they remain one of the greatest threats to public safety.”

Marlando Mitchell, 24, of Brampton, and Che Brooks-Baptiste, 20, of Burlington, were each charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Mitchell was also charged with failure to comply with a release order.
As well, two 16-year-olds — one from Toronto and another from Mississauga — were each charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The Toronto teen was also charged with failure to stop after an accident, failure to comply with a release order and disobeying a court order, while the Mississauga teen was also charged with failure to comply with a release order.
