6 charged after man swarmed, robbed at gunpoint in Oshawa

Six people — two females and four males — have been charged after a swarming-style assault and gunpoint robbery in Oshawa.

Durham Regional Police responded on Monday at about 5:20 p.m. to an armed robbery in the John St. E.-Simcoe St. S. downtown area.

Police said that the victim was at a local business when he was approached by a female who took his phone and demanded he exit the business.

Once outside, police said, the victim was surrounded by four other people, assaulted and robbed at gunpoint. The victim managed to escape, fleeing to a nearby park.

All of the suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

Officers tracked the suspects to a residence in the same area, where a perimeter was set up. Six people exited the residence and were taken into custody without incident.

A search warrant was sought and executed for the residence, resulting in the seizure of a loaded firearm.

A 17-year-old female from Oshawa is charged with uttering death threats, pointing a firearm, assault, robbery with a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a restricted/prohibited firearm with no licence, possessing a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm and possession contrary to an order.

Strife Lessard, 18, of Oshawa, is charged with assault, robbery with a firearm, possessing a restricted/prohibited firearm with no licence and possessing a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm.

James Thajer, 30, of Oshawa, is charged with possessing a restricted/prohibited firearm with no licence and possessing a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm.

Devontay Sparks, 19, of no fixed address, is charged with assault, robbery with a firearm, possessing a restricted/prohibited firearm with no licence and possessing a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm.

Jacqueline Reid, 37, of Oshawa, is charged with possessing a restricted/prohibited firearm with no licence and possessing a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm.

Tre Bucknor, 21, of Brampton, is charged with assault, robbery with a firearm, possessing a restricted/prohibited firearm with no licence and possessing a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm.
