Crash in Etobicoke leads to arrest in downtown park shooting

A suspect wanted for allegedly shooting and wounding a man Sunday night near a downtown park was arrested after a crash in Etobicoke.
When Toronto Police were called at 9:30 p.m. to Moss Park, at Sherbourne and Dundas Sts., officers found a wounded shooting victim who was rushed to a hospital. He’s expected to survive.
A vehicle was seen fleeing the area. It was later recovered after a single-vehicle crash in northern Etobicoke.
Police alleged a vehicle owner rented his ride to a person using an online marketplace application, but decided to take it back when the last month of rent wasn’t paid.
The owner and two friends located the vehicle and contacted the person who rented the vehicle to get the keys back, police said.
The man who rented the vehicle retrieved a gun and discharged six rounds, according to the accusations.
One of the owner’s friend’s was shot twice and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police alleged that after fleeing in the vehicle, a man later crashed near a school in the Kipling Ave.-The Westway area.
After the crash, the vehicle caught on fire. Police responded and said officers, who also recovered a handgun at the scene, arrested a suspect after a foot chase.
Jakhiray Heavens, 19, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm, two counts of discharge firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and other offences.
