CRIME SCENE: 5 males sought in Markham home invasion and car theft

Five suspects are being sought following a Markham home invasion.

York Regional Police said on Sunday around 4:40 a.m., police responded to a residence in the area of Riverbend Rd. and Campbell Court where it was reported five suspects forced their way into the house through a rear glass door while the home owners were sleeping.

Cops say the suspects assaulted one victim with a weapon and demanded cash and jewelry before fleeing in the victim’s Lexus sedan.

The victim sustained minor injuries but was not transported to hospital.

All five suspects are described as wearing all black clothing with gloves and masks.

The investigation is ongoing.

SHOTS FIRED IN MARKHAM

York Regional Police are appealing for witnesses after a Markham residence was the target of a shooting on Sunday.

Cops said that around 7:40 a.m., they responded to a home in the area of The Bridle Walk and Holst Ave. wher they observed visible damage to the garage and a vehicle parked in the driveway.

Multiple shell casings were located in front of the residence and there were no reports of gunshots were reported overnight.

Officers learned that around 2:30 a.m., an unknown suspect arrived on foot, fired multiple times at the residence and fled to a nearby park.

The house was occupied at the time of the shooting but no injuries were reported.

Investigators believe the incident is targeted and are seeking any additional video surveillance from the area or any dashcam video of the roadway at the time of the incident.

SEX ASSAULT SUSPECT NABBED

A male suspect accused of sexual assault at two Toronto subway stations was arrested Monday while trying to enter a subway station.

Toronto Police said that the first victim was exiting the Bathurst subway station on Saturday around 9:35 a.m. when they were approached by an unknown male suspect who allegedly choked, sexually assaulted, and assaulted the victim.

It’s further alleged a second victim tried to stop the assault and was also assaulted by the suspect, who then fled on foot.

Cop said on Sunday, at 12:34 p.m., a third victim was standing on the platform at Dufferin subway station when it’s alleged they were approached by an unknown male suspect, who assaulted and then sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing on foot.

All of the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Anthony Nguyen, 32, of no fixed address, has been charged with 15 offences including nine counts of breach of probation, two counts each of sexual assault and assault and one count each of assault choking and assault cause bodily harm.

FIREARM SEIZED, MAN CHARGED IN VAUGHAN

York Regional Police has seized a loaded firearm and charged a man with multiple offences after an impaired operation investigation in Vaughan.

On Saturday, around 2:30 a.m., officers received a call to service for an impaired driver in the area of Martingrove and Roysun Rds.

Officers located the vehicle at a red light with the driver allegedly unresponsive behind the wheel, boxed in the vehicle and the driver was arrested for impaired operation.

The driver and vehicle were searched and a loaded firearm was seized.

Cesar Soto Rivera, 29, of Toronto, faces two impaired charges and five firearm-related charges.

SUSPECT SOUGHT IN NEWMARKET INDECENT ACT

York Regional Police are releasing images of a suspect accused of committing an indecent act in Newmarket.

On June 6 around 6:45 p.m., two youths were playing in the forested area of Ken Sturgeon Park, in the area of Lockwood Circle and Damascus Court when cops alleged they were confronted by a male suspect with his pants down committing an indecent act.

The youths left the area and reported the incident to police.

The suspect is described as male, west Asian, 25 to 30 years old, with a slim build and dark hair. He was seen wearing a white t-shirt and grey shorts and carrying a green Vape.
