CRIME SCENE: Man accused of assaulting Scotiabank Arena guard with blunt object

A Toronto man is being sought after a security guard working at Scotiabank Arena was assaulted with a blunt object.

Toronto Police said officers responded to an assault call on Dec. 12 at 3:30 p.m. in the Bay St.-Gardiner Expressway area.

Police said a security guard was working at the downtown arena and asked a male to leave. The male later returned, found the security guard and allegedly assaulted him with an object.

The guard was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Lionel Vernon, 41, is wanted for aggravated assault. He is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds with a medium build, bald and has black/grey facial hair. He was wearing a blue hooded sweater, a green camouflage jacket, blue jeans and black/white shoes.

SHOTS FIRED IN CANNINGTON

Durham Regional Police are investigating shots fired in Cannington overnight Monday.

Officers responded at about 3 a.m. to the Peace-Davidson Sts. area for an armed person.

Officers arrived and were able to review video footage which captured the sound of gunshots. Police said a series of six shots is heard, followed by another nine after a brief pause.

Cops said a scene has since been located and shell casings were recovered. Police believe this is an isolated incident.

Two hurt in shooting

Police said two people were injured after gunfire rang out in Scarborough on Tuesday night.

In a post to social-media site X, Toronto Police said officers responded at 8:20 p.m. to reports of gunshots heard in the Lawrence Ave.-Orton Rd. area.

Police said two victims were located with unknown injuries. A light-coloured vehicle fled the scene, cops said.

Lawrence Ave. E. was closed at Orton Park.
