CRIME SCENE: Toronto man facing firearms charged was at scene of homicide, police say

A 25-year-old Toronto man police say was present at the time of a homicide is facing firearms-related charges.

On Wednesday, July 24, at 2:34 a.m., Toronto Police were called to a shooting in the Ellesmere Rd.-Midland Ave. area where four people were found with gunshot wounds.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene and three people were taken to hospital .

One person died in hospital and the other two victims remain in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries

Police say several firearms were be used during this incident.

The victims have been identified as Braydon McCann, 22, of Toronto, and Sarah Prehay, 23, of Toronto.

On Tuesday, police said a man who was present at the scene produced a firearm which was used to fire back at the suspects.

Christopher Kane, 25, of Toronto, has been charged with pointing a firearm , discharge firearm with intent to wound endanger life or prevent arrest, disguise with intent, possession of a firearm with altered serial number, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a licence, carry concealed weapon, careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, and three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.

TORONTO COP HURT IN CRASH

A Toronto Police officer has been injured in a collision between an unmarked police car and a stolen vehicle.

It happened Monday at 5:31 p.m. in  the area of Victoria Park Ave. and  Craighton Dr.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Two people were arrested.

STABBING IN EAST END

Police are investigating a stabbing in the city’s east end.

Toronto Police were called on Monday at 5:27 p.m. to a stabbing in an apartment in the area of Thorncliffe Park Dr. and  Overlea Blvd.

A suspect was arrested and a victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

FIREARM DISCHARGE

A west-end business has been shot at in a drive-by for the second time in two days.

Police said at 3:14 a.m. on Tuesday the business in the area of Eglinton Ave. and  Bathurst St. was shot at and a firearm discharge was located.

Police say the shots were fired from a vehicle.

There were no reported injuries.

PEEL POLICE CRACK DOWN ON BAD DRIVERS

Peel Police laid nearly 280 driving-related charges over the weekend and seized several vehicles in the problem area of Ridgeway Plaza in Mississauga.

Throughout the weekend, officers laid 248 highway traffic act charges that included speeding, unnecessary muffler noise, illegal tinted windows, 22 highway traffic act summons for stunt driving and street racing. Five vehicles were seized, four license suspensions were issued, and one stolen vehicle was recovered.

“This is the second weekend this month of conducting strategic enforcement to ensure road safety in the surrounding areas of the Ridgeway Plaza in Mississauga.,” Peel police said in a news release.

“Peel Regional Police continues to remind drivers that there is no excuse and there will be no tolerance for street racing, stunt driving, excessive speed or unnecessary noise from vehicles. Beyond the penalties, this type of behaviour puts everyone on our roads at risk.”

SUSPECTS SOUGHT FOR RETAIL ROBBERY

Toronto Police are looking for help identifying two suspects wanted in a retail robbery investigation.

Police say on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 10 p.m., they responded to a robbery call in the Bloor St. and George St. area.

Police say one suspect entered a store wearing a mask while a second suspect waited outside the door as a lookout.

The suspect allegedly went behind the counter, pointed pepper spray at the victim, and said he had a weapon.

Cash and cigarettes were stolen and the suspects fled.

Then, on Monday, Aug. 19 at 11 p.m., police were called to a theft in the area of Bloor St. and George St.

Again, one suspect entered a store while a second suspect waited by the door.

The suspect was denied cigarettes because they could not produce identification.

The suspect allegedly went behind the counter with a knife and demanded cash.

The suspects took cash and merchandise and fled.

The first suspect is male, about 6-foot-1, with a medium build, and short brown hair. He was wearing a beige jacket, blue jeans, black shoes, and was carrying a beige satchel.

The second suspect is a male, 5-foot-3, with a medium build. He was wearing a black jacket, black pants, black shoes, and was carrying a multi-coloured backpack.

SEX ASSAULT AT YORK UNIVERSITY

A man has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman at York University.

On Thursday, Aug. 15,  at 8:45 a.m., Toronto Police were called on Aug. 15 to the university after a man   started talking to woman, and tried to draw her into a private area.

When the women tried to leave the area, the man allegedly sexually assaulted her, according to police.

Police say they know of three women who were sexually assaulted.

Kevin Desousa, 31, of Toronto, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, assault, possession of counterfeit money, and fail to comply with release order.
