CRIME SCENE: Toronto man now charged with murder after 2024 Scarborough stabbing

The victim of a fatal stabbing in Scarborough has been identified as a 65-year-old Toronto man, while charges against the accused have been upgraded to first-degree murder.

Toronto Police responded to a stabbing call on Oct. 15, 2024, at 2:25 a.m. in the Midland-Eglinton Aves. area. Police said officers found a male victim with stab wounds. Life-saving measures were performed and the victim was taken to a hospital in serious condition. He was treated and released from hospital.

The accused was identified as Sukhdeep Rana, 47, of Toronto. He was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000 and trafficking a schedule I substance.

Then on Oct. 31, the victim, identified as Ronald White, was pronounced dead. A post-mortem exam revealed the victim died as a result of complications from the injuries sustained in the stabbing.

On Wednesday, police said charges against the accused were upgraded to first-degree murder and attempted murder. It was Toronto’s 86th homicide of 2024.

MAN WANTED FOR ARMED BANK ROBBERIES

Police are on the hunt for a suspect wanted for a pair of armed bank robberies in the York neighbourhood.

Toronto Police said officers first responded on Jan. 13 at 4:30 p.m. to a hold-up call in the St. Clair Ave.-Weston Rd. area.

Police said a lone male suspect allegedly entered a bank while wearing a mask, approached a teller and produced a handgun. Police said the accused showed the teller his cellphone, which allegedly had a typed-out demand for cash. He took cash and fled from the area.

Officers also responded to a hold-up call in the same area on Jan. 16 at 12:45 p.m.

Police said the same male suspect allegedly entered a bank while wearing a mask, approached a teller, produced a handgun and made a verbal demand for cash, which he took before fleeing.

The suspect is a 5-foot-8 East Asian man, about 25 to 35 years old with a thin build. He is considered armed and dangerous.

TEEN CHARGED AFTER FIREARM, DRUGS FOUND

An 18-year-old Toronto man has been charged after a loaded weapon and fentanyl were seized.

Toronto Police said the integrated gun and gang task force opened an investigation into a male believed to be in possession of a firearm. Police said the accused was allegedly found Tuesday to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

A search warrant was executed in the King and Simcoe Sts. area, where police seized fentanyl.

Trell Devlin was charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm and possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.
