Toronto Police were called on Tuesday evening at about 6:30 p.m. to an apartment on Dundalk Ave., southwest of Kennedy Rd. and Hwy. 401, for reports of a stabbing. An injured 12-year-old girl was found at a residence before being pronounced dead at the scene.
Amy Li, the building’s superintendent, said she received a panicked call on Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m. from a woman, who is a tenant of the building, pleading for help. When Li arrived at the unit, she couldn’t gain access because the door was locked and she didn’t have a key.

Li said she was told, “‘Amy, come, come to my home I need your help, I need your help quick.’ I go upstairs because I think the kids are fighting.”
She then went back to her first-floor office, but was alerted when she said she heard “some noise from outside.”

Some neighbours were there and when Li looked up, she said she saw a young boy on the balcony with his hands clutching the railing and he was yelling something indecipherable.
“He was outside on the balcony,” said Li. “Both hands were holding the (railing of) the balcony.”
“I feel really sad about what happened. And I hope this doesn’t happen again.”
Police did not release any other information or the identity of the accused, who is under the purview of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Evidence from court is under a publication ban.
At least 12 police cruisers were at the apartment on Wednesday morning with yellow police tape zigzagging across the front of the grounds, through the trees and to the west side of the building.
Police were examining the grassy area and looking into first-floor yards. Other officers were in the building “doing a canvas,” said a sergeant at the rear of the building, and looking for more answers as to what may have happened.
It was the city’s 46th homicide of the year.
