U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo arrested an MS-13 gang member who made a wrong turn in Canada onto the bridge.
The Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13 gang, is a notorious international criminal gang.
On Nov. 22, customs officers stopped a Honduras citizen who made a wrong turn in Canada onto the Peace Bridge.
The driver did not have a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compliant document at the first inspection area and was taken for a secondary examination.
During the examination, officers identified the driver as Franklyn Hernandez Giron, 24, and discovered he was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha.
“This example of the dangerous individuals our CBP officers encounter highlights the dedication and commitment these officers have to keeping our communities safe,” said Area Port Director Gaetano Cordone. “I’m proud of the work our officers do every day to safeguard America.”
The driver was taken into custody and processed by CBP officers and is facing removal proceedings.
