A manhunt is underway for the alleged killer of Toronto’s 83rd homicide of 2018.

But if you see Amal Jones anywhere, don’t talk to him directly or engage him in any way.

“He is considered armed and dangerous,” warn Toronto Police, who announced Saturday a warrant was out for his arrest for a second-degree murder.

Their advice?

“If located, contact 911 immediately.”

This is important to note since the 19-year-old is wanted in the murder of Elliott Reid-Doyle, 18, who was gunned down in the broad daylight on Oct. 3 at the corner of Birchmount Rd. and Bonis Ave.

The whole thing is nuts because it’s so brazen in the middle of the day with people all around. But it’s even more crass if you consider it’s believed there was no major motive for the gun to come up and another person being outrageously shot, according to police.

“We don’t believe that they knew each other prior to the incident and the shooting was a result of that interaction that they had with each other,” veteran homicide Det. Leslie Dunkley told media Friday.

In other words, a kid is dead over nothing. This has happened all too often in 2018 where those packing heat are not worried they will be carded or even questioned by police who are mandated by the government to tell people they want to talk with that they are under no obligation to do so and hand them a card with various contacts on how to complain about them.

Yet, another kid is senselessly dead.

“A warrant in the first has been issued,” said a release by Toronto police spokesperson Katrina Arrogante. “He is wanted for second degree murder. He is described as 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-2”, slim build, black hair in cornrows tied at the back, and he was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit.”

From my experience covering local crime,  I know this is also not Jones’s first run in with the law. He has a history with police and the courts. Judging from Dunkley’s comments, Jones is also not likely to outsmart cops.

“I urge the suspect in this case to contact a lawyer and turn himself in. It’s just a matter of time before we locate you,” Dunkley told the media on Friday.

It seems Jones was captured on a store’s surveillance video. Oops.

Now the video and his picture is out there for all to see. These images should help the public offer tips and clues. But remember, with the serious allegation against this suspect, and that he carrying a gun and is known to the justice system, just call police and let them handle it.

Better yet, Amal. The jig is up. Be a man and turn yourself in.
