“It has proven challenging to identify and secure some polling locations in this general election,” said Florence Ryan of Elections Canada.

“This has led to delays in confirming polling locations and consequently production and mailing of voter information cards to registered electors.”

She said affected voters will receive their cards before advance polls, which open on Friday, April 18.

Election day is Monday, April 28.

On its website, Elections Canada says voters who have not received their card by Friday, April 11 “may not be registered or your registration may not be up to date.”

Voters can check whether they are registered — and where they can vote — by checking with Elections Canada using either Elections Canada’s Online Voter Registration Service (ereg.elections.ca) or by calling its voter hotline, 1-800-463-6868.

The voter information card provides key information, including whether all eligible voters in a household are registered and where and when to vote in advance polls and on voting day.

People can cast ballots without their card, but voters are encouraged to bring it with them, along with accepted identification, to make the voting process easier.

Elections Canada says there are several ways voters can prove their identity at voting stations. For more information, visit the Elections Canada website at elections.ca.
