An unidentified male remained in custody on Saturday evening after being seen in the emergency department of CHEO with what police later described as a replica firearm.
The Ottawa Police Service said officers responded to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in the city’s east end at 4:57 p.m. on March 22.

Officers apprehended a suspect a short distance from the hospital, a news release said.
No injuries were reported, nor was there any threat to the public, police said. The incident remained under investigation.
A spokesperson for CHEO said a “Code Silver” was called according to established protocols and a lockdown was initiated.
“The situation was contained swiftly and the individual is now in the custody of the Ottawa Police Service, who responded and secured the scene,” the statement said.
The lockdown was subsequently lifted and the hospital resumed normal operations, it added. “We are co-operating fully with the ongoing police investigation.”
