CRIME SCENE: 14-year-old boy charged with murder in stabbing of senior

A 14-year-old boy is now behind bars accused of murdering a 71-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed after heading out to pick up some groceries.
Toronto Police said officers found critically wounded Shahnaz Pestonji, of Toronto, around 9:40 a.m. last Thursday when officers arrived in the area of Sheppard Ave. and Parkway Forest Dr., which is located just west of Hwy. 404. She was pronounced dead later at a hospital.
Police arrested the teen, who can’t be identified under the Youth Justice Criminal Act, on Sunday and charged him with second-degree murder.
He’s scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday morning.

DRUGS, KNIFE SEIZED DURING TRAFFIC STOP
A 35-year-old Hamilton man is facing numerous weapon and drug charges after cops pulled over a motorcyclist in Steeltown’s east end.
Hamilton Police alleged officers spotted a motorcycle being operated with an unauthorized licence plate Wednesday on Ottawa St. N., near the The Centre on Barton, before detaining the rider and conducting a search.
Police allegedly found fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone, a prohibited switchblade and cash.
James Tilley was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession contrary to a prohibition order, four separate counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000.
Police said he was denied bail.

MAN WANTED AFTER HAMILTON ARMED ROBBERY
Police have asked for help in identify a bandit who robbed a convenience store on east Hamilton Mountain.
Hamilton Police said they responded to a call Wednesday in the Fennell Ave. E.-Upper Ottawa St. area after a man entered a store just before 1 a.m. with a concealed firearm and demanded cash from an employee. He fled before officers arrived.

Police said they are looking for a white male in his early 20s who is about 6-foot with a thin build and a tattoo on his right forearm. He was wearing a green shirt, black pants, red and black shoes and a green sling bag.

MAN CRITICALLY HURT IN WHITBY CRASH
A 39-year-old man is fighting for his life in a hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Whitby overnight that left several others injured.
Durham Regional Police said they responded to a collision Saturday at about 11:10 p.m. in the Taunton Rd. W.-Cochrane St. area, where a white Jeep Wrangler travelling eastbound on Taunton collided with a black Honda SUV that was turning on to Cochrane.
A male passenger in the Jeep suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, while five other people — four of whom were in the Jeep — were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
