“Two police officers discharged their firearms” and the teen was hit, the SIU said. He was taken to hospital, where he died Tuesday morning.

Sources told the Toronto Sun’s Joe Warmington that after the car was flagged as part of a previous police investigation, young women exited the car without incident and the young male driving was the last to leave.

Sources allege that as he was stepping out of the car, his gun discharged toward the officer, who thought he had been struck and returned fire.

The officer’s bulletproof vest was seized and taken into evidence by the SIU, and a firearm was retrieved from the car, Warmington reported.

No officers were injured.

Five investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case and two subject officials and two witness officials have been designated.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
