Cops seek identity of suspect after rabbit shot dead in Newmarket

Police are turning to the public for help after a rabbit was shot dead on the front lawn of a Newmarket home over the weekend.

York Regional Police said investigators are appealing for witnesses to identify the person who shot the animal dead with a single bullet.

Police said, shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Glenway Circle and Eagle St. W. after a homeowner discovered a rabbit had been shot in their front yard.

Investigators obtained video surveillance which shows that a white Ford F-150 pickup truck drove into the area at 6 a.m. and stopped in front of the residence. In the video, a suspect is seen leaning out the back window and firing a shot, striking and killing a rabbit.

Police released video of the incident on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers are seeking video surveillance or dashcam video that will assist in their investigation. They urged anyone with infomation to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7141.
