CRIME BRIEFS: TTC bus sex assault suspect sought, 'ghost' firearm seized in traffic stop

Toronto Police are asking for help to find a suspect in the alleged sexual assault of a woman on a TTC bus earlier this month.

On May 2 at 4:15 p.m., police say a man and woman were on a transit bus in the Markham Rd. and Eglinton Ave. area when the man sexually assaulted the woman and then left the bus.

The wanted man is described as 50 to 60 years old and 5-foot-6, with a medium build. He was wearing a brown jacket with fur and police have released images.

POLICE SEIZE ‘GHOST’ FIREARM

Ontario Provincial Police have laid multiple charges after the seizure of a personally manufactured “ghost” firearm during a traffic stop in the Township of King.

On Sunday at 1, officers conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 400 southbound, south of Hwy. 9, and allegedly seized a loaded personally manufactured firearm, an extended magazine, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Alexander Czerniatowicz, 19, of Toronto, faces 10 firearms-related offences as well as failure to comply with release order.

RENOVATION FRAUD BUST

Peel Regional Police have charged a Toronto man in a number of alleged renovation frauds in their region.

Between April 2023 and November 2023, cops allege Trisztan Tarnoci, of TRT Masonry & General Contracting, signed three renovation contracts and collected deposits of $37,000.

In each case Tarnoci signed a contract, collected a deposit, kept the money and didn’t do the work, according to police.

The 23-year-old is charged with defrauding the public and possession of property obtained by crime.

Cops said there may be more allege victims and ask them to contact police.

“Peel Regional Police would like to remind the public to be meticulous in vetting their contractors by asking for personal referrals, checking online reviews, and verifying their credentials,” police said in a release.

ARSON INVESTIGATION

Toronto Police have released images of a suspect in an arson last week near the Eaton Centre.

On Wednesday at 11:45 p.m., police say a man entered a laneway in the Yonge and Elm Sts. area and used a lighter and accelerant to set fire to cardboard next to a building. He then fled.

The man is described as 25-35 years old and was wearing a green hooded sweater, dark-coloured jacket, black shoes, and had a black backpack and trolley bag.

MAN SOUGHT IN STABBING

Cops are hunting a man after a stabbing late Monday in Scarborough.

Officers were called at 8:30 p.m. to Melford Dr. and Tapscott Rd. where a man in his 30s was found suffering from stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as Black, in his 30s, with long dreadlocks, and wearing blue jeans and a red shirt.

CARJACKING ARREST

Toronto Police have made arrests in a North York carjacking Tuesday morning.

Cops say suspects broke into a home in the Yonge St. and Steeles Ave. area at 5:30 a.m. and stole a vehicle.

They were later arrested in the area of Warden Ave. and Denison St. by York Regional Police and the K9 unit.

There were no injuries.
