CRIME SCENE: 11 charged in Markham as cops crack down on residential break-ins

York Regional Police have laid 43 charges against 11 suspects as a result of Project Sunset, a six-week campaign aimed at combating residential break-and-enters in Markham.
Cops say Project Sunset, which ran from November to December, resulted in a 25% decrease in residential break-and-enters during the same time period in 2023.

Using a data-driven approach, break-and-enter hot-spot areas of Markham were identified, resulting in increased police visibility in these areas during the evening and proactive investigations.
Homeowners in the hot spots were also provided with safety information and education with more than 500 information cards containing break-and-enter prevention strategies handed out.
Homeowners were encouraged to remain vigilant and to call 911 to report suspicious persons, vehicles and activities in their neighbourhoods.
TEEN, 3 YOUTHS CHARGED IN AUTO THEFT PROBE
York Police have have charged an adult and three youths from the GTA alleged to be involved in King-area commercial break-and-enters to steal vehicles.
Cops said that on Nov. 15 at about 9:45 a.m., they learned three suspects had entered a tow yard in the area of Hwy. 11 and Bathurst St. and and stolen three recovered vehicles.
York and Toronto police investigators then identified the suspects, who had been previously linked to other commercial break-and-enters within York, as well as a residential break-and-enter in Toronto.
On Jan. 10, Kenshin Bumanglag, 19, of Toronto was charged with 14 offences, while two 17-year-olds from Newmarket faces seven charges including failure to comply with an undertaking and an Aurora youth, 17, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
A white BMW sedan was identified as allegedly being utilized by the suspects and cops believe this vehicle was involved in other commercial break-and enters in the GTA and and are asking anyone with information to contact police.

FIREARM DISCHARGED DURING VAUGHAN CARJACKING
York Regional Police are appealing for witnesses after a firearm was discharged during a robbery and a carjacking in Vaughan.
Cops said that on Saturday at about midnight, police responded to a robbery in the Teston Rd.-Jane St. area after the victim met with the suspect to sell him a phone.
Instead, police said the suspect stole the phone and fled on foot and the victim attempted to follow him until the suspect discharged a firearm. The victim was not injured.
Cops said the suspect then carjacked a Honda CR-V that was parked in a driveway, threatening the owner with the firearm before crashing the stolen vehicle a short distance away and fleeing on foot.
The suspect is described as a clean-shaven white male, about 16 years old and weighing 130 pounds, with dark hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and black pants.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have video footage, particularly one witness who was operating a dark SUV in the area at the time of the incident. MAN, 40, WANTED FOR ASSAULT, DEATH THREATS
A 40-year-old man is wanted by cops in Peel Region for 15 criminal offences.
Investigators with Peel Regional Police’s intimate partner violence unit are asking for the public’s help locating Andrew Lamore, of no fixed address. He is wanted for assault, robbery, pointing a firearm, weapons dangerous, use of an imitation firearm in commission of an offence, assault-strangulation, mischief under $5,000, three counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, four counts of breach of a court order and failure to comply with a release order.
Detectives have reason to believe that Lamore might have access to firearms.
He is described as 6-foot-2, about 250 pounds with short brown hair, brown eyes, a light complexion and a tattoo of a Wu-Tang Clan symbol on his left hand. He was last seen wearing black Adidas jogging pants, a Puma sweater, heavy black winter coat, a Kansas City baseball cap and black high-top Jordan shoes.
