CRIME SCENE: 4th person wanted in kidnapping, death of Cambridge man

The Wellington County Detachment of the OPP is seeking a 51-year-old Guelph man in connection with the kidnapping and death of another male.

The OPP said that on May 14 at about 6 p.m. they responded to a collision involving two vehicles on the southbound Hanlon Pkwy., north of Stone Rd., where a 40-year-old man from Cambridge was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to a hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

Police subsequently learned that earlier in the day the victim had allegedly been abducted from a residence on Fife Rd. by five suspects who fled in two vehicles.

Investigators believe  the victim was outside the first vehicle, a Toyota Venza SUV, on Hanlon Pkwy. when he was struck by a second vehicle, a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was following closely behind.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Ian Brown, who was last seen in downtown Guelph, on charges of kidnapping and assault with a weapon.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact authorities immediately. Do not approach if spotted.

Griffin Kerfoot, 19, of Elora, Jacob Schafer, 20, of Guelph, and a 16-year-old from Guelph have already been charged with assault with a weapon and kidnapping,

SCAMMERS TARGETING NEW IMMIGRANTS

Toronto Police are making the public aware of scammers impersonating community support organizations and legal services designed to help new immigrants with a particular focus on the Chinese community.

People are receiving unsolicited phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to be representatives from newcomer support agencies, immigration service organizations and legal services.

Police said the caller claims to work for a settlement or support agency and tells the complainant they must provide personal information to verify their immigration status or to receive services. The caller sometimes demands money to continue with the complainant’s immigration process and people are also pressured to provide identity documents, banking information and credit card numbers.
