A 31-year-old Brampton man has been charged with sex trafficking.

Peel Regional Police said that in May officers initiated an investigation involving an alleged victim engaged in the sex trade within Peel Region.

Police claim the accused exploited the victim, exercised control over her activities and profited from her earnings.

Michael Smith is charged with trafficking in persons, exercise control, advertising sexual services, receiving benefit resulting from trafficking in persons, and material benefit from sexual services.

Investigators are concerned about the possibility of other alleged victims of human trafficking and prostitution offences.

RIDE-SHARE DRIVER CHARGED WITH SEX ASSAULT

A ride-share driver has been arrested after allegedly sexual assaulting a patron in Durham Region.

Durham Regional Police said that an investigation concluded last Saturday.

Police said the accused picked up the alleged victim in a red Mitsubishi SUV with the Ontario licence plate CZKL 975. The patron was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle when police allege the driver touched her inappropriately.

Paul Sundaramahesam, 43, of Whitby, is charged with sexual assault.

He was released on an undertaking.

Police are concerned about the possibility of other alleged victims and have released a photo of the accused.

GTA CASINOS PENALIZED BY AGCO

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has issued $151,000 in penalties to Great Canadian Entertainment for alleged misdoings at three of its casinos.

AGCO alleges the company failed to prevent minors from accessing gambling on multiple occasions at the trio of Toronto-area casinos.

“As part of its investigation, the AGCO reviewed four separate incidents in which minors allegedly gained access to the casino floors and in which some of these minors participated in gambling activities – two cases at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, and one at each of Casino Ajax and Pickering Casino Resort,” the AGCO said in a news release.

KENORA MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG TRAFFICKING

A 64-year-old Kenora, Ont. man is facing drug trafficking charges following a two-month investigation in the northern border town.

The Ontario Provincial Police’s organized crime enforcement bureau, the Kenora OPP community street crime unit, OPP provincial operations intelligence bureau, Kenora OPP and its regional support team, Winnipeg Police and Treaty Three Police opened an investigation in March into the suspected trafficking of cocaine, methamphetamine and prescription drugs in Kenora and the surrounding area.

On Tuesday, the investigative team arrested an individual for alleged drug trafficking activity. Officers executed a search warrant on a residence and a vehicle, which was seized as offence-related property.

Investigators also allegedly seized 370 grams of suspected cocaine, 350 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 235 grams of oxycodone tables, 3,000 hydromorphone tablets and $5,630 in Canadian currency.

The estimated street value of the suspected drugs seized is $185,000.

Larry Snow is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking – hydromorphone, and possession for the purpose of trafficking – oxycodone.
