CRIME SCENE: Man wanted after suspected hate-motivated subway assault

Toronto Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a male suspect in a suspected hate-motivated assault on the TTC in the Yonge-Bloor Sts. area.
Cops say on Sept. 12 at 9:18 p.m., the victim was travelling northbound on a TTC subway train when the suspect allegedly began yelling anti-Black slurs toward the victim, who was then assaulted.

Authorities say passengers pushed the emergency alarm and the suspect fled.
He is male and 30-40 years old and he was wearing all black clothing.
The investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.

DAYCARE WORKER CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
A 26-year-old male daycare worker in Niagara Falls has been charged with aggravated assault stemming from an alleged incident on Sept. 13.
Niagara Regional Police Service’s Child Abuse Unit investigated reports of a serious assault that occurred at the Way to Grow Daycare at 6071 Valley Way, involving a child.
It’s alleged a male employee choked and assaulted a child under the age of five. The child sustained injuries as a result of the incident.
On Sept. 17, Matthew Maxwell of St. Catharines was arrested and charged and police say they have reason to believe there may be more victims.
Before Way to Grow Daycare, Maxwell was employed at Niagara Nursery School & Child Care Centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

MAN SHOT
Toronto Police are investigating after a man was shot at Lawrence Ave West and Allen Road on Tuesday night around 10:15 p.m.
Cops say the victim was taken to hospital and his injuries are serious but non-life-threatening.
Authorities say the suspect or suspects fled in a dark-coloured sedan and anyone with information should contact police at 416-808-2222.
RETAIL ROBBERY
A 25-year-old Toronto man is facing six charges following two armed robberies on Sept. 7 in the Kingston Road and Military Trail area and the Meadowvale Road and Dean Park Road area.
Toronto Police allege between 5:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. the masked suspect entered two different stores, one after the other, approached the counter, pointed a handgun at the victims, and demanded cash and lottery tickets.
Cops say fearing for their safety, the victims put money and lottery tickets in a bag and handed it over to the suspect who left the stores and fled the area in a vehicle.
On Sept. 17, 2024, police attempted to place the suspect under arrest but he briefly escaped custody and assaulted an officer before being apprehended.
Shemore Getfield has been charged with two counts each of robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent and one count each of escape lawful custody and assault police.

ATTEMPTED CAR ROBBERY
Durham Regional Police are looking for three male suspects after an attempt to steal a vehicle by breaking into a Whitby residential garage.
Cops say on Sept 17, around 3:40 a.m. the trio accessed the garage of a residence in the area of Closson Drive and Des Newman Boulevard by using a garage door opener that had been left in a Lexus Sedan that they previously stole from the residence.
Authorities say the suspects attempted to steal a Range Rover SUV that was parked in the garage but could not gain access to the vehicle and also attempted to enter the residence but were unsuccessful.
They were seen fleeing the area in a white Lexus sedan.
The first suspect is described as white male, approximately 5-foot-10 with a slim build and wearing a black face mask, a dark-coloured sweater, blue pyjama pants, and black shoes.
The second suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-10 with a slim build and wearing a dark green hoodie, dark green track pants, and black shoes.
The third suspect is described as a white male approximately 5-foot-10 tall with a medium build and wearing a blue mask, white hoodie, blue jeans, and black shoes.
