CRIME SCENE: Former nurse accused of stealing from long-term care residents

A former nurse is accused of entering multiple long-term care homes in Oshawa and Bowmanville to steal from residents.
Durham Regional Police said investigators began a probe on June 3 into a suspect who was entering long-term care homes.

Police allege the suspect, once she entered the homes, entered resident rooms and stole their belongings.
The suspect was identified by investigators and she was arrested at her residence on Friday, cops said.
Kayla Summers, 35, of Clarington, is facing various charges including break and enter commit / dwelling-house, theft under $5,000, and fraud under $5,000.
Investigators believe there may be other victims and released a photo of the suspect. She is described as white with a medium build, red hair wearing a pink and purple scrub top, and dark colored pants.

TORONTO MAN, 61, ARRESTED FOR UNPROVOKED ASSAULTS
A Toronto man accused of an unprovoked stranger assault at Broadview station last week has been arrested.
And Toronto Police believe he may be responsible for two other assaults.
Police said they received a call for an assault on June 5 at approximately 2:24 p.m. at the TTC station in the Danforth and Broadview Aves. area.
Cops allege that a male suspect was inside the station when he assaulted the female victim and fled the scene. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, the victim and suspect are not known to each other.
The suspect is also accused of similar incidents on Feb. 27 aboard a TTC bus in the Broadview Ave. and Gerrard St. E. area, and Jan. 28 at Woodbine station.
Mussie Woldemariam, 61, was arrested and charged Tuesday with three counts each of assault and breach of probation.
THREE INJURED BY DRIVER FOLLOWING FIGHT IN VAUGHAN: COPS
Police say three people were injured by a motorist following a fight in Vaughan last week.
York Regional Police said officers responded at approximately 9:50 p.m. on June 4 to a plaza in the area of Islington and Napa Valley Aves. for reports that three people had been struck by a vehicle.
According to police, cops learned the suspect had been in an altercation with a group and had spayed an aerosol irritant at them. The suspect then drove a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner, striking three victims.
Police said two victims suffered minor injures and one victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threating injuries. The suspect remained at the scene.
The driver, 20-year-old Hazal Pala, of Toronto, is charged with four counts of assault with a weapon, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, and possession of a weapon
Police said there was a large presence of foot and vehicle traffic in the area at the time of the incident and investigators are seeking to speak with any witnesses who have not yet come forward.

QUEBEC PAIR NABBED FOR CLARINGTON VEHICLE THEFTS
Two men from Quebec are facing charges after two vehicles were stolen in Clarington last week.
Durham Regional Police said officers responded on Friday at approximately 11:40 a.m. for a stolen vehicle call in the area of Gibbs Rd. and Clarington Concession Rd. 7.
After arriving to the scene, cops located two stolen vehicles and both drivers were arrested without incident or damage to any vehicles.
Kevin Lizotte, 35, and Maxime Paquette, 25, were both charged with theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of possessing property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking exceeding $5,000, possessing an electronic device for motor theft, and unlawfully purchasing/possessing automobile master key.

MAN BUSTED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING IN NEWCASTLE
A Clarington man is accused of drug trafficking in Newcastle.
Durham Regional Police said officers responded on Friday to an alarm call in the area of Grady Dr. and Rudell Rd.
Cops allege the suspect was at a construction site where he was trying to gain access to the office.
Once officers arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to flee on an electric scooter but was taken into custody.
Police added a quantity of drugs was seized with an estimated value of more than $50,000.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect was allegedly responsible for property damage at the Newcastle GO station lot.
Ryan DaSilva, 41, is charged with obstructing a peace officer, mischief/damage to property under $5,000, and six counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
VICTIM PUNCHED, PHONE STOLEN AFTER DATING APP MEETUP: COPS
Police say a man was punched and his cellphone stolen after he used a dating app to meet a suspect on an Oakville trail.
Halton Regional Police said the victim arrived at a trail system in the area of Lakeshore Rd. W. and East St. on May 13 at approximately 1:15 a.m. for the prearranged meetup.
Both the suspect and victim arrived wearing a ski mask which they agreed upon in prior messages, cops said.
According to police, the suspect became violent during the meet and punched the victim in the face and head, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect then stole the victim’s cellphone and fled the area.
The victim did not sustain any serious physical injuries, cops added.
Juan Amaya Cordero, 25, of Oakville, was arrested on Friday and charged with robbery and possession of property obtained by crime.
The victim’s phone was recovered, police said.
During correspondence with the victim, cops said the accused used the alias “Cruise”.
Investigators are concerned that there may be more victims.

SUSPECTS WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY IN VAUGHAN
Four suspects who cops believe are in their teens are wanted for allegedly using hammers to smash a cellphone store window in Vaughan on Monday.
York Regional Police said officers responded at approximately 6:50 p.m. to a report of an attempted robbery in the area of Rutherford and Weston Rds.
The victims told police that multiple masked suspects attempted to force their way into the store by smashing the front window with large hammers.
The suspects were unsuccessful and fled in a silver four-door sedan, cops said.
All four suspects are described as males in their teens with slim builds and dark complexions. They were wearing grey sweaters, grey sweatpants and had dark face coverings.
The investigation is ongoing.
