CRIME SCENE: Hamilton cops seek daytime shooter in downtown core

A male youth is sought after a daytime shooting in downtown Hamilton that happened after what cops said was a verbal fight between two groups of males.
Hamilton Police said the incident happened on Wednesday at 4:50 p.m. in the Jackson St. E-Walnut St. area.

Cops said before officers arrived, all involved in the shooting had fled the scene but the investigation revealed that a verbal fight between two groups of three males preceded the gunfire.
Police were guided to an apartment building at 115 Main St. E and the three males were arrested without incident, with help from the Emergency Response Unit.
The trio was interviewed and released pending further investigation.
Authorities recovered a firearm although police said it’s unconfirmed if it is the weapon used in the shooting.
Investigators are seeking a male suspect, believed to be the shooter, described as white, 15-17 years old, with a thin build, long wavy brown hair, and wearing white shoes, black socks, a beige sweatshirt and beige shorts or rolled-up pants black and carrying a satchel/crossbody bag.
Police said additional video evidence will be reviewed in the coming days and police will maintain a presence in the area to canvass for additional footage.
Police are asking anyone who might have video evidence from the area between 4:30 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. to review their footage for relevant information.

PENETANGUISHENE MAN CHARGED FOR TORONTO BANK ROBBERY
A 36-year-old Penetanguishene man has been charged in connection with a June 5 bank robbery in Toronto.
Toronto Police said that at about 12:50 p.m. a masked male suspect allegedly walked into a bank in the Spadina Ave.-College St. area and handed a teller a note with a demand for cash.
The accused allegedly took a quantity of cash and fled the area.
Members of the Hold Up Squad charged Troy Sweeney on July 4 with robbery, disguise with intent and fail to comply probation order.

YOUTH CHARGED, ADDITIONAL VICTIMS SOUGHT IN SWARMING-STYLE ASSAULTS IN OSHAWA
A 17-year-old Oshawa male was charged and more victims and witnesses are sought after violent assaults and robberies involving large groups in Oshawa.
In a news release issued on Thursday, Durham Regional Police said officers responded on Tuesday, July 2 at about 12:20 a.m. to a robbery call in the Harmony Rd. N.-Taunton Rd. E. area. Cops said a large group of male and female youth were walking through a plaza parking lot when they engaged the victim in conversation.
“They group of youth approached the victim, who attempted to run away,” police said in the news release. “The suspects caught up to the victim and (allegedly) assaulted him repeatedly, taking the victim’s cell phone and air pods, before fleeing the area.”
The victim was treated by paramedics on scene for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 17-year-old, who can’t be named per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with robbery with violence.
He was released on an undertaking and the investigation is ongoing.
Police said they believe the same group were involved in an earlier assault in the same area.
On Canada Day at about 10 p.m., police said the victim was walking at Norman G. Powers Public School at 1555 Coldstream Dr. in Oshawa when he was approached by a group of young males. One of the accused got into an altercation with the victim and then allegedly assaulted him before the group allegedly swarmed and continued to assault the victim.
He was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Police are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed either of these assaults or engaged with the suspects. HAMILTON MAN CHARGED WITH SEX ASSAULT
A 21-year-old Hamilton man is accused of sexual assaults against women in North York and Oakville.
In a news release issued Thursday afternoon, Toronto Police said a 20-year-old female was allegedly sexually assaulted on March 9 in the Keele St.-Wilson Ave. area.
Police said it’s alleged that the victim and accused met through an online dating app. Cops said the accused used the name “Andrew.” They met in person and the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.
On June 30, police said another 20-year-old was allegedly sexually assaulted in the Third Line.-Upper Middle Rd. W. area of Oakville.
Police said it’s alleged the circumstances were identical with the accused and victim meeting through an online dating app and the name “Andrew” being used, followed by an in-person meeting and alleged sexual assault.
Police on Wednesday arrested Tianyi Yang and charged him with two counts of sexual assault, sexual assault with choking and assault.
Investigators believe there may be more victims.

MANHUNT ON FOR ACCUSED IN ASSAULT PROBE
Cops are the hunt for a 41-year-old Toronto man after a person was allegedly harassed and assaulted over several months in the city’s east end.
Toronto Police said that between December and July 4, a person allegedly uttered threats, assaulted and harassed the victim in the Danforth Ave.-Main St. area. Police said the two are known to each other.
Elliot Pikulik is wanted for uttering threats, assault, assault by choking, harassment by repeatedly following another person and harassment by threatening conduct to another person.
Pikulik is 5-foot-5 and stocky with short reddish-brown hair and blue eyes.

PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER ASSAULTED
A 63-year-old Toronto man has been charged with assault after allegedly spitting in the face of a parking enforcement officer.
Toronto Police said they responded to an assault on Sunday at 12:14 p.m. in the Gilbert-Norman Aves. area, where a parking enforcement officer had issued a violation notice to an illegally parked vehicle.
Police said the driver of the vehicle allegedly verbally abused the officer and then spat in the officer’s face before leaving.
Tiodolfo Gomez Infante was arrested on Tuesday and charged with assaulting a peace officer.
